Vision Transformers (ViT) dominate computer vision. However, their reliance on rigid patch projectors hinders transfer to Earth Observation (EO), where input modalities, scales, and resolutions vary widely. We introduce UniverSat, a ViT-style backbone built around a Universal Patch Encoder that maps patches from arbitrary spatial, spectral, and temporal resolutions, and from both optical and non-optical sensors, into a shared embedding space with a shared set of weights. This enables training a single model on heterogeneous multimodal corpora via self-supervision, yielding robust, sensor-agnostic spatial features. We validate this approach with strong results across classification and segmentation on standard EO benchmarks from GeoBench, PANGEABench, and SpectralEarth. The growing availability of co-located geospatial data spanning aerial imagery, street-level views, elevation models, text, and geographic coordinates offers a unique opportunity for multimodal representation learning. We introduce UNIGEOCLIP, a massively multimodal contrastive framework to jointly align five complementary geospatial modalities in a single unified embedding space. Unlike prior approaches that fuse modalities or rely on a central pivot representation, our method performs all-to-all contrastive alignment, enabling seamless comparison, retrieval, and reasoning across arbitrary combinations of modalities. We further propose a scaled latitude-longitude encoder that improves spatial representation by capturing multi-scale geographic structure. Extensive experiments across downstream geospatial tasks demonstrate that UNIGEOCLIP consistently outperforms single-modality contrastive models and coordinate-only baselines, highlighting the benefits of holistic multimodal geospatial alignment.

Geospatial models must adapt to the diversity of Earth observation data in terms of resolutions, scales, and modalities. However, existing approaches expect fixed input configurations, which limits their practical applicability. We propose AnySat, a multimodal model based on joint embedding predictive architecture (JEPA) and scale-adaptive spatial encoders, allowing us to train a single model on highly heterogeneous data in a self-supervised manner. To demonstrate the advantages of this unified approach, we compile GeoPlex, a collection of 5 multimodal datasets with varying characteristics and 11 distinct sensors. We then train a single powerful model on these diverse datasets simultaneously. Once fine-tuned, we achieve better or near state-of-the-art results on the datasets of GeoPlex and 4 additional ones for 5 environment monitoring tasks: land cover mapping, tree species identification, crop type classification, change detection, and flood segmentation.

The field of Earth Observations (EO) offers a wealth of data from diverse sensors, presenting a great opportunity for advancing self-supervised multimodal learning. However, current multimodal EO datasets and models focus on a single data type, either mono-date images or time series, which limits their expressivity. We introduce OmniSat, a novel architecture that exploits the spatial alignment between multiple EO modalities to learn expressive multimodal representations without labels. To demonstrate the advantages of combining modalities of different natures, we augment two existing datasets with new modalities. As demonstrated on three downstream tasks (forestry, land cover classification, and crop mapping), OmniSat can learn rich representations in an unsupervised manner, leading to improved performance in the semi- and fully-supervised settings, even when only one modality is available for inference. Determining the location of an image anywhere on Earth is a complex visual task, which makes it particularly relevant for evaluating computer vision algorithms. Yet, the absence of standard, large-scale, open-access datasets with reliably localizable images has limited its potential. To address this issue, we introduce OpenStreetView-5M, a large-scale, open-access dataset comprising over 5.1 million geo-referenced street view images, covering 225 countries and territories. In contrast to existing benchmarks, we enforce a strict train/test separation, allowing us to evaluate the relevance of learned geographical features beyond mere memorization. To demonstrate the utility of our dataset, we conduct an extensive benchmark of various state-of-the-art image encoders, spatial representations, and training strategies.
